A Most Embarrassing Moment

Getting a crack at the chiropractor is mostly a pleasant event. One lays down with arms crossed over and one leg bent. The chiropractor leans over with placed knee and does the quick thrust of adjustment.

Spinal joints separate slightly. Pressure drops in the synovial fluid between joints. And released is a gas bubble that sounds as some say, a signature pop.

Yet it really sounds like a bone crack when the byproducts produced in the formation of synovial fluid are freed. Oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide cut loose in a rapid expulsion of rich “crackatory” sound.

And yet for me that day. No such luck.

We have the standard quick thrust of adjustment. And low and behold what emits and from where?

Where does endogenous gas consisting of mainly hydrogen and maybe methane, and sometimes along with one percent scented hydrogen sulfide burst forth?

No “crackatory”.

Instead we hear the “balloon let loose”.

Loud and clear.

Followed by some silence.

Silence from the chiropractor.

Silence from me.

My god it was embarrassing.

Farting at the chiropractors.

A most embarrassing moment.

Never again.
